The Spanish language (Spanish: el español) is a widely-spoken Romance language originating in the parts of the Iberian Peninsula which later became Spain. It is the national and official language of Spain and in many former territories of the Spanish Empire.
Spanish is a Romance language, and follows general Romance grammar patterns.
Spanish uses the standard 26-letter Latin Alphabet, as well as some other characters with diacritical marks or groups of letters considered to be letters in their own right. These include Ññ and the letter combination of two L's (ll).
